What is DiSC®?

DiSC is the first step towards Personal Insight!

At Succeed with Style, DiSC is our assessment tool of choice.  DiSC is a four-letter acronym that represents the four behavior dimensions or characteristics of all human behavior. It is a perception model for understanding and managing differences.  People with similar styles tend to exhibit specific behavioral characteristics common to that style.  All people share these four styles in varying degrees of intensity.  Unlike many other behavioral systems, DiSC is simple and easy to understand and apply.  Take your first step towards achieving the Benefits of Personal Insight with us.

DiSC

Dominance: Direct and Decisive
D's are strong-willed, strong-minded people who like accepting challenges, taking action and getting immediate results.

Influence: Optimistic and Outgoing
I’s
are “people people” who like participating on teams, sharing ideas, and energizing and entertaining others.

Steadiness: Sympathetic and Cooperative
S’s are helpful people who like working behind the scenes, performing in consistent and predictable ways and being good listeners.

Conscientiousness: Concerned and Correct
C’s are sticklers for quality and like planning ahead, employing systematic approaches and checking and re-checking for accuracy.

For over 40 years, organizations worldwide have embraced the language of DiSC. The DiSC theory was originally created by Dr. William Moulton Marston at Columbia University and was updated by Dr. John Geier and Inscape Publishing at the University of Minnesota.  Since then, over 35 million people in 20 plus languages have gained insight about themselves and others through our DiSC based learning instruments.  DiSC provides nonjudgmental language for exploring behavioral issues across the four primary dimensions.

Every day, organizations use DiSC to establish a common language, paving the way for successful training and coaching applications.  Detailed, personalized information helps people apply DiSC learning to specific business situations, including sales, leadership development, customer service and conflict resolution.

THE PROCESS

The actual (personal profile DiSC) assessment is comprised of 28 sets of 4 word choices that the individual (you) self selects as being “most like” or “least like” him or her.  The profile can be administered by paper or online.

Based on the responses, a detailed report is generated that is devoted entirely to you and your style.  First you will work with your DiSC graph that allows a visual picture of your highest to lowest DiSC dimensions.  You will learn about your highest dimension and your tendencies, needs, preferred environment and strategies for effectiveness.  You will be able to explore your Intensity Index to become more aware of your potential strengths and weaknesses.  You will also discover how your D,I,S and C dimensions combine to form your unique Classical Profile Pattern.

Please keep in mind that no dimension or pattern is better or worse than another and there are no right or wrong answers.  Rather, the report shows your personal responses to your environment.

DiSC IN THE WORKPLACE

After each employee begins to explore and understand their own behavioral preferences, they become better equipped to understand the behaviors and actions of those around them (their co-workers)

The DiSC tool helps to establish a safe and “common language” among employees, management and teams, to further promote true understanding.

DiSC can be a stand-alone tool and is included in many of our courses as part of the curriculum

In some cases, the DiSC assessment is necessary as a basis of knowledge, prior to taking a course, as is the case with the Action Planner courses.
